Fans of Italian styling are anxiously awaiting Fiat and Alfa Romeo's return to the U.S. now that the alliance deal between the Italian auto giant and Chrysler has well and truly been brokered. However, while Fiat is confirmed to be here at the end of this year with its 500 minicar, there’s still no firm arrival date for the more premium Alfa Romeo brand (not including the exclusive 8C Competizione supercar).

The first model will be the Giulia mid-size sedan, which replaces the 159 currently sold overseas. It will be available in both sedan and wagon bodystyles and will be built in Italy. It will ride on a modified version of the “compact” platform underpinning the Giulietta hatchback.
Also due in 2012 will be a compact SUV designed and built in the U.S. by Chrysler. It will also share the Giulietta’s compact platform.
In 2013 Alfa Romeo will launch a five-door version of the entry-level Mito hatchback as well as a brand new Spider convertible. The new Spider will ride on a rear-wheel drive platform borrowed from Chrysler, most likely a modified version of the LX platform underpinning the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. It will be built in the U.S. but its styling may be derived from Pininfarina’s Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta concept that starred at last month’s 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
